AI Mode for Google Search is not a feature that you “download” as a standalone application or extension.
Instead, it is an experimental feature integrated into Google Search that you can access if you meet certain criteria and opt into it through Google’s Search Labs.
Here’s how you can access AI Mode:
- Eligibility: As of now, AI Mode is initially rolling out to Google One AI Premium subscribers. This means you need to have a Google One AI Premium subscription to be among the first to gain access.
- Opt-In via Search Labs: AI Mode is part of Google’s experimental features available through Search Labs. To access it:
- Ensure you’re signed into your Google Account (with a Google One AI Premium subscription, if required).
- Visit the Google Search website (www.google.com) or open the Google app on your mobile device.
- Look for the “Labs” icon, typically found in the upper-right corner of the Google Search page on a computer or within the Google app.
- In Labs, find the AI Mode experiment and opt in by joining the waitlist or enabling it if it’s available to you. You may need to wait for approval, as access is being rolled out gradually.
- Accessing AI Mode:
- Once enabled, you can access AI Mode by performing a search on Google and selecting the “AI Mode” tab, which appears alongside other filters like Images, News, and Shopping.
- Alternatively, you can go directly to google.com/aimode or tap the AI Mode icon below the search bar in the Google app on mobile devices.

Requirements
You’ll need the latest version of the Google app or Google Chrome browser, and you must not be in Incognito mode when accessing this feature.
Important Notes:
- Not Available to Everyone Yet: AI Mode is still in the experimental phase, and access is limited. Even if you’re a Google One AI Premium subscriber, you may need to join a waitlist and wait for broader availability, as it’s currently in the US only.
- No Download Required: Since AI Mode is built into Google Search, there’s no separate software or app to download. It’s a feature you enable through your existing Google Search interface.
